Now then fine folks. Ever been faced with that equally daunting and delightful task of showing that someone special a good time in London? So have we. Ever rolled your eyes, scratched your temple and come up short? Welcome aboard.
We’ve tried, we’ve failed and this much we’ve learned. These are the findings from a mission to uncover London’s great little places. A collection of thoughts on the best in London’s unexpected or special little venues and activities. Somewhere or something that’s a talking point in itself. Charming and individual is the order of the day. Unusual, strange even, off the beaten track and won’t be forgotten.
We invite you to share your discoveries and your expeditions, and we’ll share ours. Never again shall a fair maiden be treated to an American Hot at Pizza Express. Not on our watch.

Exellent idea, Im gonna hang around and contribute as much as I can, this is a long overdue site.
going from strength to strength aye guys!
I LOVE this site. Quirky, cool, fun. Would you be interested in working together as some kind fo content editor at TasteRater? Put your content on Tasterater and you get the ad revenue for the sites you highlight (assuming people think its useful). A bit of small print to discuss, ideally over booze. etc. Let us know! And if not, best of luck, This look totally fab.
I own and run my wee bar cafe in Leith, Edinburgh.
Come see for yourself!
Jonny – love the look of it. We’ll post it up on the Edinburgh Facebook site.
Could you please note access and disabled facilities at all these places from now on? Thank you.
Hello Jean,
Yes of course. We’ll try our best to detail the access and disabled facilities.
All the best and thanks for the support

What a fantastic idea! What a fantastic website. I’m from italy and I started blogging this week. I was looking for some ideas on the web and then I found this website, I’ve put in my website a link for your blog, unfortunately my blog is still in italian but I hope you like it.
Hello – this site is great. With the best of London. Content could do with being a bit more user friendly – put some menus at the top for different top 10s.
Thanks
Sweet, thanks for the help guys!!!
Maybe a list of places, i.e i’m searching for a restaurant in covent garden.. so i simply clickedy click on covent garden and hey presto, lists of restaurants, bars, interesting places nearby where i’m going!!! Job done
Great story. I’ve been stuck in sweaty Florida for 22 years!I would like to add your story to my website if I may? My website is going to pay my way home next year I hope!
Thanks guys!
We have a truly beautiful and romantic hotel and restaurant in Cheshire.
When all our secret places are no longer secret, where will we go then? Hope you guys don’t get too big!
i absolutely love this site.
what about doing an issue on great little places for a slightly larger gathering? i don’t mean a date + gooseberry-friends but rather a special birthday soirée or similar.
please….?
this little place in farringdon is lovely – good quality (and not too pricey) french food

We know it well Julie. It made it into our top ten most romantic restaurants in London. Thanks for the support. Team GLP
There is a great little Cafe in farrigdon called the J&A Cafe, it serves great food, but best of all is its serves amazing home baked cakes and fabulous teas all day, although it can be very busy during lunch so i’d advise going for afternoon tea and cake therapy… Enjoy

This bar is cocktail-tastic. It has all the spirits I could possibly imagine and the loveliest bar staff I’ve encountered in London so far. And with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust next door, they can’t help but know everything there is to know about a good tipple. I particularly recommend their Tuesday Taster evenings.

I am producing this video blog and think it would be of interest to your viewers. any chance of a plug.

What’s wrong with a nice sit down at Pizza Express? If someone were to shell out £80 on a 3 course meal including wine with me I wouldn’t be so snobby as to turn my nose up at it.

Hi
Is it possible to trawl through suggestions sorting them by location? Am looking for places in SW Ldn like Barnes, Clapham, Putney etc
Cheers xxx
My favourite little place is called Blacks on Dean Street Soho. Its a candle lit georgian townhouse with roaring fires, very Dickens. Unfortunately its members only.
This is really handy, but only trawlable rather than searchable… how has something this good not been turned into a location-aware iPhone app?
Hi Jimmy, thanks for the post. We’re working on it – watch this space. Cheers
Just seen the HELP GET US OFF THE GROUND link asking for donations. I love the site and think you’ve got some great recommendations.
How about you run a competition to win a meal for 2 at a top London restaurant or a reserved area for 10 and a £200 bar tab at one of London’s hottest bars?? You could charge £1 per ticket. Might be more of an incentive to donate than a promise of getting your name on the site (which I’ve just done for free). £1 x 78,000 Facebook followers – should be easy to raise £10,000!
Hi Liz, this could be a cracking idea… we’ll look into it!
Brilliant idea, such a clever concept. Would love to talk to you about ‘great little place’ as a brand.
You can email me at the address I used to post the comment if you are interested.
HI Liz – right we’re on. Windsor Castle in Kensington / Notting Hill is offering up a meal as part of a raffle and there will be more to come – for any contributer!
Been looking for a website like this for SO long as finally found it! Perfect mix of things!
Great site guys, always check it. Any thought on “best places to play ping pong” in the future?
Hi Tom – cheers, and great shout. We asked it on our Facebook page and got some cracking responses; we’ll write them up for you. But Zetter Townhouse is a great place to start…
really cool idea, I’ll add a couple of entries later (when I’m not at work)
I think a map view (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/index.html) would be really useful to see all the great little places around home/work
I would be willing to give you 2 free tickets to my film club night in order to put in your raffle! Oh my favourite great little place is in my bed but i don’t want the whole of london there so here is another great little place, http://www.maisonbertaux.com well worth a visit if you like tea or coffee and cake! mmmmm
Hi,
Trawling through the old trip advisor type threads on Google search and thankfully came across you guys, as a Londoner I know you know your stuff! But more on north London would be great – living abroad now and only visit occasionally, would be so great to find some new music /food/drinks places round about my old manor muswell hill etc.
Thanks anyway and keep up the great work!
Love the site we have just launched a music & travel guide to London with a similar idea great little shops, live venues and landmarks all over London, maybe we should team up.
