We asked you all, what can you do for free in London? Well, we had everything from pick pocketing around Oxford Street (hands to yourself Lee VinylBizzle) to the ingenious plan of getting arrested (Adam Kristoffer tells us you get free travel, free meals and paid for accommodation). But we decided to keep things a shade more legal. Here are our findings on the things to do for everybody’s favourite price: fr££. Nada.
We’ve changed our usual layout for this one, instead of dividing up by area, we’ve divided by interest. We are dangerous.
Museums, Galleries & Art
Horniman Museum, 100 London Rd, Forest Hill, London, SE23 3PQ
A cabinet of wonders. Nowhere else will you find collections of anthropology, natural history and musical instruments all in the same place. Bonkers. Bizarre and beautiful architecture, stunning gardens, but it’s all about the aquarium. Most of all a) the jellyfish and b) the seahorses. They swim vertically. For real.

Grant Museum of Zoology, Rockefeller Building University College London 21 University Street, WC1E 6DE
This is the land of the lost. Travel back in time and enter this emporium of weird and wonderful specimens and skeletons. From Dodos to Tasmanian Tigers and every freaky thing in-between.

The Courtauld Gallery, Somerset House, Strand, WC2R 0RN
One of London’s true hidden gems. This intimate gallery makes quite the impression with its awe-inspiring range of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings. It normally costs a fiver to get in, but every Monday (excluding public holidays) you can get in for free between 10am and 2pm.

Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, SE10 9LW
What it lacks in littleness, it makes up for in greatness. This magnificent baroque masterpiece was designed by none other than the maestro himself Christopher Wren, a man who really knew his architectural onions.

Evensong at Westminster Abbey, 20 Deans Yard, SW1P 3PA
Sang beautifully by the Abbey choir, at 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, plus at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. If it’s good enough for Kate and Pippa, it’s good enough for us.
Nature
Highgate Cemetery & woods, 7 Highgate High Street, N6 5JR
Death is a thing of beauty here. Nowhere else do the departed rest so peacefully. Home to the grave of Karl Marx. (Oops we’ve found out this isn’t free now, but great nonetheless! The West side is by guided tour only (£7/£5 students) and the East side is £3/£2 students. It is gorgeous, but as it’s run by a charity, entrance isn’t free).

Not as famous as Highgate Cemetery but equally as captivating.

Chiswick House Gardens, W4 2RP
£12.1 million has been spent restoring the gardens. That’s a lot of wonga on fauna and flora but it’s left it smelling of absolute roses. Follow Angela’s advice: take a picnic and sit under the tree made famous by The Beatles.
