Oh Sunday Sunday. So good to me.
We dedicate to you the wonders of the roast, the meal we love the most.
We scatter rosemary at your feet, alongside the finest of meat.
Our duck-fat roasties we offer onto you. Our gravy of the gods and delicious yorkies are all yours too.
Behold sixteen of the greatest little Sunday roasts in London, as nominated by all you esteemed GLP Facebook folks. These are all next level. Some classic. Some unknown. Some off the beaten track. Some closer to home. A word of caution though: make sure you book in advance. We’ve also teamed up with the infamous Roasted Sundays bloggers, who have graced us with some guest write-ups below. Check out their site as they have dedicated their lives to being purveyors of pork.

Central
Duke of Wellington, 94A Crawford Street, Marylebone, W1H 2HQ

This place puts the gastro in ‘pub’. Glorious Sunday roasts aside, this little Marylebone gem is brilliant any day of the week. Their fresh and warm, home made bread is to die for too. You know it’s a good’n if they’ve got their dough in order. Always try and find a table downstairs, next to the bar, as it’s a whole lot more lively.

Orange Public House, 37-39 Pimlico Road, SW1W 8NE

This bright and breezy number is what we call shabby chic at its finest. Granted it’s on the more expensive side of the fence, but god-damnit you’re worth it. They do a mean wood fired pizza too. So pull up a rustic chair and tuck into their delicious oven roasts with duck fat potatoes.

North
The Compass, 58 Penton Street, Angel, N1 9PZ. To book click here.
For a delicious, seasonal, British menu, forget your bearings and look no further than The Compass. It’s all prepared, fresh to order. There’s always a good vegetarian option as well.
Thanks for the tip off: Cuan Hawker and Katie Harries.
The Bull and Last, 168 Highgate Road, NW5 1QS
“Outstanding chips, charcuterie and trotters. As enjoyable as the roast itself.” For the full review by Roasted Sundays, click here.

South
King’s Arms, 251 Tooley St, London Bridge, SE1 2JX

These guys take their Sunday roasts as seriously as Katie Price takes foundation. Fellow GLPer Olivia reckons you can’t beat the legendary 10 hour gravy at the King’s Arms. Time-well spent we say. Their Sunday roasts (with meat from a local butcher) come with all the trimmings including cracking crackling. There’s also usually a solid vegetarian option.

Royal Oak, 44 Tabard Street, Borough, SE1 4JU
This is the only Harvey’s pub in London. Judging by their ale, that’s a great start. It’s cute and characterful both inside and out, and the roasts are a high point on a menu that’s English through and through.

Royal Oak, 10 Clapham High Street, Clapham, SW4 7UT
Whilst we’re on the subject of Royal Oak, here’s another stormer. Having had quite a few sunday roasts in Clapham in our time, we can safely say this is the finest. The Yorkshire puddings are immense, and the beef always super tender. As a pub it’s got that ‘country pub in the city’ feel, roaring fires, solid wooden furniture, some classic old board games here and there and a full sized ping pong table. Obviously.
The Bear Free House, 296a Camberwell New Road, Camberwell, SE5 0RP
This former Victorian gin palace is now a temple of roasts. You can also play The Correspondents while you eat at this charming, Camberwellian gastropub. Plus it’s very reasonably priced. We’ll take that.
Thanks for the tip off: Sarah Moss and Melanie Scarlett.
Antelope, 76 Mitcham Road, Tooting, SW17 9NG
This is the crown jewels of the mighty Tooting. It’s the sister in arms of The Tooting Tram and Social, another gem. Not quite so little, but certainly great.
Thanks for the tip off: Lizzie Armstrong and Sarah Jenkins.
East
Hawksmoor, 157 Commercial Street, Shoreditch, E1 6BJ. To book click here.

“Hawksmoor do an absolutely bloody amazing roast. It was everything we expected and more, and it will easily be one of the best roasts you can have in London. The 3 core elements, the meat, the potatos and the gravy were done to such a high standard we almost wept.” For the full review by Roasted Sundays, click here.
Some tips from our GLPers: Scott recommends the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream for dessert, post-roast up. Suzanne said it was like sex on a plate. Eat safe folks.

The Water Poet, 9-11 Folgate Street, Shoreditch, E1 6BX. To book click here.
“An accomplished lesson in the culinary art of roasting. The beer garden, the awesome calibre of meat, the rustic vegetables, the reasonable price, the location… It is, in a nutshell, immense.” For the full review by Roasted Sundays, click here. Also quite possibly the best pace to watch big sports games in London. The beer garden’s grade A.

The Kenton, 38 Kenton Road, Hackney, E9 7AB. To book click here.

“Massive, delicious and easily the best in the area.. also, even though I am a confirmed meat eater the vegetarian nut roast is the business” – Bob Flemming, GLPer. Bob, you had us at ‘massive’.
Thanks for the tip off: Bob Flemming.
Bacchus, 177 Hoxton Street, Hoxton, N1 6PJ. To book click here.
Simple, honest roasting. Comfy couches, wooden dining tables and antique cutlery. The most voted by GLPers. To the victor, go the roasted spoils.

West
The Jam Tree, 58 Milson Road, Kensington, W14 0LB. To book click here.
This tucked away place is all about the positivity and funky colours. Warhol would be proud. Plus the food is as eclectic as the decor, with dishes from Britain, Malaysia and India. So soak up the colour and wipe the gravy off your shirt.
The Mall Tavern, 71 Palace Gardens Terrace, Notting Hill W8 4RU. To book click here.

“Proper knives. Proper forks. Proper napkins. The Mall Tavern is the kind of place you bring your old man for a Sunday roast. Old Hooky and Black Sheep on the pumps. Great service. And a pretty much perfect plate of food. It’s one thing paying £15 for a roast, but its another thing to walk away feeling like it was worth every penny. And that’s exactly how we felt when we left. A big hats off to you, sir.” For the full review by Roasted Sundays, click here.
